Nestled in Pierrefonds, Château de Pierrefonds blends medieval military design with 19th-century Romanticism. Built in 1393 by Louis I, Duke of Orléans, this fortress fell into ruin before its restoration by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc under Napoleon III.
The château’s exterior showcases its medieval origins with towers, ramparts, and a moat, while the interior reflects Viollet-le-Duc’s romantic vision, featuring grand halls, painted ceilings, and ornate stonework.
Explore its rich history, from the Hundred Years’ War to its 19th-century revival, and enjoy its picturesque setting on the edge of the Compiègne forest, offering a perfect blend of history and nature.
