St. Nicholas Museum in Myra commemorates Saint Nicholas, also known as Santa Claus, born in Patara in 300 AD. Serving as Bishop of Myra, he became known for his kindness to children and sailors. After his death in 365 AD, a church was built over his tomb, now a museum featuring Byzantine architecture and stunning 11th-century wall paintings depicting his miracles.
Renovated by Constantine IX in 1042 and Tsar Alexander II in 1862, the church was a medieval pilgrimage site. Some relics were taken to Bari, Italy, in 1087, while others are in the Antalya Museum. Saint Nicholas's legacy inspired Santa Claus, and the museum remains a top attraction with annual peace events held every December 6 in his honor.
