Kaymaklı Underground City, Cappadocia’s widest underground settlement, features over 100 interconnected tunnels, many still used today. Four accessible floors reveal stables, churches, wineries, and kitchens, all centered around ventilation shafts. The second floor houses a church with an altar and seating platforms, while the third floor showcases storage rooms, a kitchen, and an andesite block with 57 carved holes for grinding. Designed with narrow, sloping passages for security, the city offered a safe refuge, warm in winter and cool in summer. Kaymaklı is a testament to ancient engineering and communal resilience.
