Vienna Airport – Getting into the City

Vienna Schwechat International Airport is very well connected to the city. Several transport options are available, and the best choice depends mainly on your budget, how fast you want to arrive, and how much comfort you prefer. From low-cost public transport to fast direct trains and private transfers, everything is clearly structured and easy to use.

S-Bahn (S7) – Budget-Friendly and Reliable

Price: €4.50, $5,30*

The S-Bahn line S7 is the cheapest way to reach the city. It connects the airport with several urban stations and is part of Vienna’s public transport network. Trains run daily every 30 minutes. Travel time to Wien Mitte is about 25 minutes. Ideal if price matters more than speed.

ÖBB Railjet – Fast and Comfortable

Price: €5.40, $6,35*

ÖBB Railjet trains stop directly at the airport. They connect the airport with Vienna Central Station and beyond. Slightly faster than the S-Bahn and a bit more comfortable. Trains run roughly every 30 minutes throughout the day and evening. A good balance between speed and price.

Vienna Airport Lines Bus – Direct and Practical

Price: €11,00 12,90* one way, €20,00, $23,40* return

Three bus lines connect the airport directly with key city locations. Especially convenient if you are travelling with luggage. Routes include Central Station and West Station, Schwedenplatz and Morzinplatz, and Kaisermühlen with the VIC area. Buses run from early morning until late at night, depending on the line. Direct routes without transfers.

City Airport Train (CAT) – The Fastest Option

Price: €14.90, $17,45*

Non-stop train between the airport and Wien Mitte. Travel time is just 16 minutes. Designed for travellers who value speed above all else. Saves about ten minutes compared to other trains, at a noticeably higher price. Simple, direct, and time-efficient.

Shared Shuttle – Fixed Price, Shared Ride

Shared transfers group several passengers heading in the same direction. Price is charged per person and known in advance. Drop-offs are made one after another. Best suited for solo travellers who want comfort with predictable costs and are not in a hurry.

Ride Hailing – Uber and Bolt

Popular and easy to use via app. The fare is shown before the ride starts but can vary with demand and time of day. Pick-up areas at the airport are clearly marked. Direct, non-stop ride to your accommodation. Cheaper than regular taxis.

Taxi – Available Around the Clock

Taxis are waiting outside the terminal at all times. Same door-to-door comfort as ride hailing services. Prices are higher and calculated by meter based on distance and traffic. Simple and flexible, but not the cheapest choice.

Private Transfer – Maximum Comfort

Booked in advance with meet-and-greet service inside the terminal. Fixed price and direct ride without stops. Especially suitable for families, groups, or travellers with high comfort expectations.

Whether you are looking for the cheapest connection, the fastest train, or a comfortable door-to-door transfer, Vienna makes it easy to plan your arrival. Once you understand the differences, choosing the right option is straightforward, and your stay can begin calmly and without stress.
