Auschwitz Birkenau Museum
The Auschwitz Birkenau Museum is located near the village of Birkenau, 60 kilometers west of Krakow, Poland. Built by Nazi Germany during the Second World War, it is one of the most horrific concentration and extermination centers in history. A symbol of a great crime against humanity, it is a symbol of cruelty where millions of innocent people were brutally murdered. The phrase 'Work Liberates' at the entrance to the camp is a cold and deceptive reflection of Nazi propaganda. These words were deliberately chosen to foster the illusion that millions of people were gathered for the sole purpose of work.
In reality, countless lives were ended within the walls of the camp. In this horrific system devised by the Nazi regime, people were put to labor, subjected to medical experiments and brutally murdered. Some were murdered en masse in the gas chambers, while others were cremated in the crematoria and disappeared without a trace. In 1979, the Auschwitz Birkenau Museum was recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Millions of people visit the museum every year to learn about and understand this dark history.
