St. Nicholas Museum in Myra honors Saint Nicholas, also known as Santa Claus. Born in Patara in 300 AD, he served as Bishop of Myra and was known for his kindness and protection of children and sailors. He died on December 6, 365 AD, and a church was built over his tomb.

The church, now a museum, showcases wall paintings of his miracles. It has undergone several renovations, notably by Byzantine Emperor Constantine IX in 1042 and Russian Tsar Alexander II in 1862, who added the bell tower.

In 1087, merchants from Bari, Italy, took some of his remains to their city, where they are now in the Church of San Nicola. Other relics are displayed in the Antalya Museum.

The St. Nicholas Museum was a major pilgrimage site during the Middle Ages. Pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem would visit the church in Myra. The museum features Byzantine architecture and 11th-century wall paintings depicting council scenes, a highlight of the period's art.

Saint Nicholas's legacy of gift-giving and aiding the poor inspired the modern-day Santa Claus. The museum attracts nearly one million visitors annually, celebrating his life and deeds.

Every December 6, Demre hosts events called 'Call for World Peace with Santa Claus,' where people from various religions gather for peace prayers and ceremonies, honoring Saint Nicholas's enduring legacy.
