- Adapted Opening Hours:
- Closed from 22 to 26 January 2024 for annual maintenance of the elevator.
- 21 March 2024: Open from noon to 6:00 PM.
- 20 June 2024: Open from noon to 6:00 PM.
- 3 October 2024: Open from noon to 6:00 PM.
- 24 and 31 December 2024: Open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (last entry at 3:00 PM).
- 25 December 2024 and 1 January 2025: Open from noon to 6:00 PM (last entry at 5:30 PM).
- Please note: The Atomium may close earlier for exceptional reasons.

The Atomium, a marvel of modernist architecture and symbol of the Atomic Age, has defined the Brussels skyline since 1958. Standing at 102 meters, it was initially conceived as a temporary centerpiece for the Brussels World’s Fair, but it quickly became a permanent fixture due to its popularity. Created by engineer André Waterkeyn, its nine 18-meter-wide stainless steel spheres are connected to form a magnified iron crystal unit cell, capturing the era's spirit of scientific progress.
Inside, visitors can explore six of the spheres, each offering a unique experience. The lower spheres showcase exhibitions on Belgian history and the achievements of Expo 58, while the central spheres host rotating art and cultural displays. The top sphere is a highlight, featuring a panoramic restaurant with stunning city views. The central vertical tube houses a high-speed elevator that transports visitors to the top in seconds – an engineering feat from 1958 and one of Europe’s fastest elevators at the time.
With its iconic LED-lit spheres, the Atomium illuminates Brussels' night sky, symbolizing Belgium’s artistic and cultural heritage. The structure underwent a comprehensive renovation from 2004 to 2006, ensuring its legacy for future generations. Today, the Atomium continues to serve as a museum and art center, drawing visitors to learn about Belgium’s atomic and architectural contributions.
