Founded in the late 19th century, the National Archaeological Museum was built to showcase the grandeur of Greece’s ancient past. As you wander through the museum’s 8,000 square meters of exhibition space, you’ll encounter over 11,000 artifacts, from the world-famous Mask of Agamemnon to intricate Cycladic figurines, towering bronze sculptures, and breathtaking gold jewelry from Mycenaean tombs.
The museum’s marble halls are a journey through time, with galleries dedicated to periods like the Minoan civilization, Classical Greece, and Hellenistic Rome. Each room is carefully curated to provide a full spectrum of Greek life, from artistic achievement to religious practices and everyday life. Among the exhibits are also rare finds from Cyprus, Egypt, and Italy, reflecting the far-reaching influence of ancient Greece.
Timed entry tickets are required for all visitors. Starting April 1st, 2024, entry is only permitted during your selected time slot, valid from 15 minutes before to 15 minutes after the chosen time. Visitors are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early to ensure ample time to enter.
