Budapest Airport – Getting to the City Center
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is located about ten miles southeast of the city center and is well connected by road and public transport. While Budapest does not offer a dedicated airport train or a classic airport shuttle line like some other European capitals, getting into the city is still straightforward. The right option mainly depends on your budget, your arrival time, and how much comfort you prefer.
Public Transport – The Cheapest Way
Public transport is the most affordable option and works reliably throughout the day and night.
- The 100E Airport Express Bus provides a direct connection between the airport and the city center. It runs to key locations including Deák Ferenc tér and operates as a dedicated airport service without intermediate local stops. Tickets are purchased separately from regular public transport passes. Price per ride: HUF 2,200, €5.70 or $6.20*.
- A second option combines the 200E bus with Metro line M3. This route is slightly slower and requires a transfer but uses standard public transport tickets. Price: One standard single ticket at HUF 450, €1.15 or $1.25*, or valid with any time-based public transport pass.

- During late-night hours, the airport is connected via night bus services, using the same ticket system as daytime public transport.

Shared Airport Shuttle
Shared airport shuttles operate with minibuses and provide door-to-door transport from the airport to city accommodations. Ride Hailing – Flexible and Often the Best Value
Ride hailing services such as Uber and Bolt are widely used in Budapest and often offer the best balance between price and convenience. Trips are booked via smartphone app, the fare is shown in advance, and payment is cashless. Pick-up areas at the airport are clearly marked, and waiting times are usually short. Prices are generally lower than traditional taxis, especially outside peak demand periods, making this option particularly attractive for solo travelers and couples.
Taxi – Official and Regulated
Taxis are available directly outside the terminal and operate around the clock. Budapest uses an official airport taxi system with regulated fares, which ensures transparency and prevents overcharging. Prices are calculated by meter and depend on traffic conditions and time of day. Taxis offer the same door-to-door convenience as ride hailing but at a higher cost.
Private Transfer – Maximum Comfort
Private transfers are booked in advance and offer the highest level of comfort. A driver meets you at the airport and takes you directly to your accommodation without stops or detours. Prices are fixed per vehicle and known before arrival. This option is ideal for families, small groups, or travelers who value predictability and a smooth, stress-free arrival.
