Patara Archaeological Site is a treasure of Lycian history, located on a peninsula opening into the Mediterranean. Founded in the 13th century BC, it was the Lycian Union's capital and a vital sea trade hub. The city is the birthplace of Saint Nicholas and was visited by St. Paul on his journey to Rome. Patara thrived during the Roman era, serving as a grain transport port and naval base.
Visitors can explore the triumphal arch, the Necropolis with Lycian sarcophagi, and the ancient theater rebuilt in 147 AD. Nearby are the Bouleuterion and Hadrian's Granary, showcasing Roman engineering. Patara Beach, stretching 18 kilometers, features sand dunes and is a nesting site for Caretta-Carettas. This site blends historical wonders and natural beauty.
