All services are closely connected, run frequently, and operate under a single ticket system with no fare zones, allowing you to travel in any direction across the entire network. Paper tickets must be validated before starting your journey. Validation machines are located at metro station entrances and inside trams and buses.

Public Transport at a Glance

Prague has a clear and well-organized public transport network, with each mode of transport serving a specific purpose. One thing is certain: at any time of day or night, you can rely on public transport to get you to your destination, or very close to it.

Metro – fast, clear, reliable

The metro is the backbone of public transport in Prague and ideal for longer distances across the city. The network consists of three lines: Line A (green), Line B (yellow), Line C (red). The trains run daily from 5:00 a.m. until midnight, with services extended by one hour on Fridays and Saturdays. Frequency is every 2 to 4 minutes during peak hours and every 5 to 10 minutes outside rush hours.

Trams – ideal for short distances

Trams are the main means of transport in the historic center and surrounding neighborhoods. They stop frequently, often right next to major sights, and connect central areas reliably. Trams run daily from 5:00 a.m. until midnight, every 5 to 10 minutes, with longer intervals in the evening.

Buses – airport access and beyond

Buses complement Prague’s public transport network where there are no rail connections. They play a key role in airport transfers and serve residential areas on the outskirts of the city. Services run similarly to trams, with reduced frequency in the evening. Several buses are available for the journey from the airport to the city center, connecting you to the city's metro network. Night buses serve key locations in the city center.

Important note: A detailed overview of all airport-to-city transport options is provided in our guide Prague Airport: Getting to the City Center.

Night trams and night buses

After the metro closes at midnight, night trams and buses take over and operate until 5:00 a.m. They run every 30 minutes, and every 20 minutes on Fridays and Saturdays.

Funicular – up to Petřín Hill

The Petřín funicular connects the lower station Újezd with Petřín Hill every 10 to 15 minutes and offers a comfortable alternative to the steep walk uphill. The 30- and 90-minute tickets are not valid here. Travel is included with 24- and 72-hour tickets as well as with the monthly pass.

Prague’s public transport system is clear, reliable and designed to move you efficiently across the city at any time of day. With metro lines, trams and buses working seamlessly together, getting from one place to another becomes straightforward, allowing you to spend less time planning routes and more time enjoying the city itself.
